June/July = Guinevere Gets Sober

An award-winning, top-ranking addiction blog offering news, reviews, and straight talk about addiction and recovery

August = No Permanent Solutions

I'm 32, married, have a huge family, work behind a desk 9am–5pm and coach diving on the side. My favorite things in this world are my family, diving, dancing, corny movies, awe-ha moments (aka Godshots), silly hair, playful banter, and belly laughs. Any of these things shared with other people makes them even better! I'm in recovery from a myriad of dependencies, and I primarily relate as a recovering alcoholic, bulimic and cutter. I lived with major depression for half my life and have received 21 ECTs. Today I live free from the hell I believed I could only escape through suicide. I don’t know why I was graced with recovery after over a decade of pain and struggle, but I know I cannot afford to keep it to myself nor do I want to. I love sharing my story and my life today, and I hope that my experience might lend support and hope to others. Remember every experience we have will pass. Be present for the good as well as the seemingly bad, because both have value and both are only temporary.

FEBRUARY 2012 Blog of the Month

Recovery Princess

Recovery Princess is a personal blog that I started when I quit drinking alcohol. The purpose was to share the ups and downs of early sobriety with others who were in the same situation. This blog was also a way for me to reach out to others in the recovery.

SoberNuggets

This is simply a space for recovering alcoholics and addicts to share the joys, struggles and realities of a sober life. Please feel free to read, write, share but most of all, enjoy.

I have been sober and drug free since Jan 28th, 1996, thanks to HP and AA. At Easter Vigil 2007 I was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Church, amazing! Thanks to HP and AA!

12 Steps of Recovery
"I am an Adult Child (of an Alcoholic)

…and a 30-something year old woman living in Cape Town, South Africa. My life has been a great struggle, even when things were good, I was waiting for them to come crashing down around me, and they usually did.

My recovery in a 12 Step Fellowship has made the single biggest difference to my life. For 30 years I wondered what was wrong with me and what to do to fix myself. I came to find that there is nothing wrong with me and all I need is Love. So my steps are a process of learning to Love myself & others. I share in the hope that you will know that you are not alone and that you can also be Loved.

Please respect my anonymity and I will respect yours."

Blog of the Month - Higher Powered

October Blog of the Month award goes to Higher Powered.  The Higher Powered blog is one of the few that long time consistently posted on sober blogs.  Higher Powered has been posting daily since December of 2004.  That takes some serious commitment folks!  Even though HP has a fabulous sense of twisted humor you can see how his recovery is truly priority.  Thank you Mr. Dave for all you give back to the rest of us in recovery.

*THIS BLOG FEATURES ADULT CONTENT*

"A POSITIVE ATTITUDE MAY NOT SOLVE ALL OF MY PROBLEMS, BUT IT WILL ANNOY ENOUGH PEOPLE TO MAKE IT WORTH THE EFFORT. I am an alcoholic and a sarcastic smart-ass. I am recovering from the alcoholism. My first and only sobriety date is September 5, 2003."

Mothers Addicted To Alcohol - MATA

Australia ~ I am a 35 year old divorced Mum of two children who has been addicted to alcohol since I was 15 years old. Also known as an 'alcoholic', after 20 years of ups and downs I decided to create a forum for other Mum's who are, or think they are addicted to alcohol. I am not a doctor, therapist or alcohol counsellor but merely one Mum talking about my experiences of living with this addiction.

Sober and the City

I’m a 25-year-old young professional living in Manhattan. I also happen to be sober. I’ve been without alcohol (and other mood or mind-altering substances) since July 30, 2007. Why, you might ask, did I get sober at the age of 21? Truth is, my junior year in college I had a serious drug problem and needed to find a way to stop for good. And how, might you ask, was I able to get sober at 21? With the help of two twelve step programs: NA and AA. After getting clean in the south, I graduated from college and moved to my favorite city in the world: New York City.

May Blog of the month Recovering Dawn
"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." ~Dr. Seuss~

"I decided about twenty-five years ago that I wanted to be a writer. Three years later I went to rehab, and started writing the twelve steps. In 1992 I returned to school. No great surprise, I got addicted and stayed for thirteen years and three degrees. Oh well, an accidental PhD perhaps, but I did learn how to write. From my head. This blog is my attempt to write from my heart."

Grace Always Waits
"To write ~ it keeps me sane and sober ~ I've learned that if we do this thing together, our chance for success is multiplied. I happen to believe that the best is yet to come! Ok, a little about me ~ I adore pigs!!! I love the redeeming qualities of fresh fallen snow, autumn aromas make me happy, and the sight of my crocuses in the spring brings hope. I enjoy learning about other cultures and religions. I've lost count for how many times I've watched "it's a wonderful life" and I treasure random conversations with the elderly who are able and willing to share portions of their journey; what it was like then. I can't bake ~ not even boxed brownies, but can cook a mean lasagna! I'm a child of God, a wife, a proud mother of the four most exceptional contributing members of society, a daughter, a sister, an auntie, a friend, bird watcher, consumer of watermelon jolly ranchers, and a passionate servant to the vulnerable and disabled. I have felt for years that I wish I could save the world ~ today, I'm just working on me"

Blog of the Month

I am trying to find peace in the pandemonium. I am a recovering alcoholic with 15 years of sobriety. I am also a newcomer to a 12-step program centered around food addiction.

I am at a time in my life where I am determined to change.

"Our results were nil until we let go absolutely."

I'm tired of nil...it's time to let go.

Whiskey and Porn for Everyone

Whiskey

I don't remember the first time I took a drink. I remember first times. I remember a friend's father teaching me to drive a pickup truck and giving me a bottle of whiskey to pull at. I remember it's burn. I remember that eventually it didn't burn anymore. I remember sitting in the dugout of a municipal baseball park, it must have been july; black flies buzzed in the heavy air. I drank blueberry schnapps until I threw up on my shoes.

And Porn

Porn, too, is a potent thing. I don’t even know if it’s a good or a bad thing. In my poem, I referred to sex and love as porn: I commodified it, got caustic and cheap and vulgar. But the point is it’s sarcasm: I want to believe in love, and in sex, and I want to believe that I, as a woman, have just as much power and opportunity in the world as anyone else.

Jump and Then Build Wings

This is how I recover

I write in a recovery forum because on June 15, 2006 I threw my drugs out of a traveling car window and have been clean and sober on a different path ever since. The only thing I really know is don't pick up a drug or alcohol (no matter what), go to meetings, work a program, and live my life on a daily basis with the best of God's intentions. So far, I've secured the first two tasks pretty well. The rest--I am slowly learning.
